CO-OPPOSITES - IDSA Exhibit

Co Opposites

Playing on Portland’s DIY culture, the exhibit features innovative expressions of culture and lifestyle generated by industrial design students. This exhibit was on display at The Art Institute of Portland. And was hung for the month of August 2010.
Each student was given two words to create a concept from. FOODCARTS and STREETCARS were the words given to me.
Foodcarts - Such a prevalent form of dining that some Portlanders have been know to proclaim themselves “Cartivores”. There are currently 580 food cart registered in Multnomah County. Portland was just listed as “The World’s Best Street Food” by CNN / Budget Travel. Found throughout the urban center of Portland, carts provide a mecca for foodies. The food is inventive and affordable, showcasing local talent, great food, and entrepreneurial spirit. Check out www.foodcartsportland.com for all the latest information.Streetcars – Opening in 2001 the Portland Streetcar line was the first rail system to use new cars since WWII. The streetcars are part of Metro’s regional plan to implement transit-oriented development in support of future urban growth. This goal reflects an approach to city planning known as new-urbanism which combines high-density development with multiple modes of transportation (including bike and walking) to create a vibrant urban core for living and working.
